Utorrent: Articles

The history of uTorrent

The first available version of this client appeared in September 2005 thanks to Ludvig Strigeus. He started developing uTorrent in 2004 but then be gave up this idea. Due to the fact that Mr Strigeus finished his project one year later now millions of users all over the world have an excellent possibility to fully enjoy all advantages of the program.

Thus, the first uTorrent version had minimal both features and size. That was a 1.1. beta version of the software. In March 2006 Strigeus was offered a 6 months’ contract for developing the applications for file sharing via the Internet. This contract was signed with PeerFactor SARL.

At the same time some concerts had been expressed as to the possible damages caused uTorrent. The program was said to contain some modules for tracking users’ actions. However, no additional codes or modules were found.

Today uTorrent is extremely popular as a client owned by BitTorrent, Inc. The corporation bought it in 2006 assigning Ludvig Strigeus the technical consultant.

The first uTorrent versions were rather vulnerable and have certain drawbacks, but further versions became updated and upgraded. If early versions were supported by Windows OS only, then new ones were developed for Windows Vista, Linux and Mac OS X (for example, the latest beta version was supported by Mac OS x 10.5 and 10.6).

As to uTorrent beta version the first such program version for Linux was released in September 2010.
